Piano Tuning

Tuning a piano
Tuning a piano

The amount of tunings per year depends upon the amount of playing time the piano receives,  the kind of music being played ,and the changes in temperature and humidity.    While this an artistic and sometimes financial decision, usually twice a year is good for your piano tuning stability.

In summer the piano will go sharp and in dry, cooler months flat.

Our charge is $65

We usually tune in Equal Temperaments.  However depending on the style of music you like, other temperaments are available.

If the piano is far off pitch (20 cents)  a pitch raise is necessary.  Piano strings are under a ton of pressure.  Asking a tuning pin to be stable and hold it ‘s pitch is like thinking you can lose 20# in a week.

A pitch raise is an added charge of $30.  AND THIS IS STILL NOT A GUARANTEE.  A couple more and frequent tunings will be needed to stabilize your tuning pins.

If your strings are old/rusty, expect some to break—it happens and cost increase.  That is all of the mean bad piano tech info I can bear to give.

**REGULAR TUNING AND A STABLE ENVIRONMENT MAKES A HAPPY PIANO! **

TEMPERATURE  IN THE 70’S AND RELATIVE HUMIDITY IN THE LOW 40’S.
A low priced temperature/hygrometer can be purchased to help.

if you are purchasing a piano from someone other than a dealer or piano technician we recommend an evaluation of the piano.  We can provide this service.
